JAPANESE CUSTOMIZATION CULTURE"WORKS STYLE" BROUGHT TO YOU WITH PRIDE BY 「Liberty Walk」
It’s not about “tuning” or “dress-up.”
These days, people use the stylish word “custom,” but even that doesn’t quite capture what we do.
“Kaizō” — modification.
That’s the word that truly expresses our style.
Removing bumpers, swapping headlights from a different model, and fitting overfenders —
that’s the spirit of the kaidō racer from Japan’s Shōwa era.
It’s one form of Japan’s original custom car culture —
a bold, divisive “bosozoku style” that people either love or hate.
And we thought, why not bring that rebellious soul to high-end cars?
That’s how LB★WORKS was born.
To talk about the creation of LB★Performance and LB★WORKS,
there’s one person we have to mention.
One day, a customer — also a close friend of Liberty Walk’s founder, Wataru Kato — said,
“I want to drive a Lamborghini.”
We found a Diablo for him, and he was thrilled.
Later, he upgraded to a Murciélago.
But the stock Murciélago didn’t quite have the wild, untamed spirit one expects from Lamborghini.
At his request to “make it look even cooler,”in 2008, we developed an original body kit for the Murciélago.
That moment marked the birth of our original brand — LB★Performance.
In 2009, we unveiled a Murciélago fitted with the LB★Performance body kit at the SEMA Show.
That marked the world debut of LB★Performance.
Despite the positive reactions from visitors,
it hardly translated into business.
Were we truly recognized—or not?
That lingering uncertainty stayed with us.
Quitting would have been easy.
But once you step back, you’ll never stand at the front again.
So instead, we pushed forward.
We developed a new Murciélago fitted with our signature “Works Fenders”,
and showcased it at the 2012 SEMA Show.
Taking an electric cutter to the body of a Lamborghini worth tens of millions of yen,
then riveting on overfenders — that was LB★WORKS.
The impact was explosive.
When people in America saw the LB★WORKS Murciélago,
they applauded, saying,
“Japanese builders really go this far!”
At the 2013 SEMA Show, we unveiled two new LB★WORKS builds —
a Ferrari 458 Italia and a Nissan GT-R.
The following year, at the 2014 SEMA Show,
we showcased four new models, including the LB★WORKS Lamborghini Aventador.
Since then, we’ve continued to introduce new creations — and we still do to this day.
Today, around 200 LB★WORKS cars exist in Japan,
and another 300 to 350 can be found around the world.
The “Works Style” has evolved into one of the most admired forms of customization
among car enthusiasts across the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East.
To bring the LB★WORKS spirit closer to everyday drivers,
we launched a more casual line — LB★STANCE —
featuring body kits for models such as the Nissan Skyline Coupe (V36) and BMW MINI (R56).
And to share the excitement of Japan’s custom car culture with children around the world,
we also created LB★KIDS CAR,
a deformed mini version of the LB★WORKS style.
Every LB★WORKS car is handcrafted, one by one.
That’s why mass production is impossible.
And it’s our principle never to build the same car twice.
Each LB★WORKS machine carries our full devotion —
our passion, our spirit, our soul.
That’s why every car moves people.
Both our founder Wataru Kato and Liberty Walk as a brand
have always stood for freedom of expression —
uncompromising, unrestrained, and unapologetic.
We’ve turned countless criticisms into fuel,
transforming them into a global movement.
They say, “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.”
But a nail that sticks out too far cannot be touched.
And so we will keep moving forward —
continuing to share Japan’s proud and rebellious “Works Style” custom culture
with the rest of the world.
The prototype of the LB★WORKS Murciélago was built from the beloved car of Kato’s close friend —
the very same customer mentioned earlier.
Just a week before his passing from a serious illness,
Kato promised him:
“Don’t worry. I’ll make your Lamborghini the most famous one in the world.”
True to that promise, the car was reborn as a D1 Grand Prix competition machine,
and to this day, it remains in Kato’s personal ownership —
a symbol of friendship, passion, and the origin of LB★WORKS.
